What's New in Overbrook Gardens

 Greenlawn Channel Dredging
The project, which was started in March 2004, has finally entered its final phase of construction.  The barge has been staged at the head of the channel and the pipes are being assembled on the boat ramp property.  Channel work is expected to start at the end of July and is planned to be completed in about two months.  Click here for the dredging company web site.  The project is being managed by the County and is funded by the abutting property owners.

The latest information that is posted on the County web site relative to the dredging project: http://www.scgov.net/EnvironmentalServices/WaterwaysProgram/ForkedCreekNeptune.asp

 Crime Alert
There have been recent crimes (drug possession, a burglary, and a robbery) in Overbrook Gardens.  Click here for the Sheriff's crime map site.  Zoom in on our neighborhood and click on the crime symbols for more detail.

A Testimonial from an Overbrook Resident
Our Board of Directors was pleasantly surprised recently to receive a letter from a resident who expressed their very positive thoughts on the Overbrook Gardens community and the Association.  We have not posted the name to protect their privacy.  Click here to access the letter.  To the author, we thank you again.

Maintenance

After working hard maintaining our eight Association properties during the winter the maintenance committee is on summer break .   We have recently had a fairly rare capital improvement of the Forked Creek bus stop.  The Maintenance Committee built and installed a bench beside the creek so visitors can sit in the shade of an oak tree and enjoy a view of the water.

We are very appreciative of the volunteers who work throughout the year in a variety of activities to keep our Association functioning and our community looking good.  If you see anything on Association properties that need immediate attention please contact Jack Rienks, 473-3179.

Forked Creek Bus Stop. Notice how the mangrove trimming has enhanced the view.

Overbrook Gardens Association is now on Facebook
Go to http://www.facebook.com .  Once on, you have to open an account if you don't already have one.  After you sign up, you can search for overbrook gardens.  Once on the overbrook gardens site, you can click on the "wall" tab at the top to view photos from the picnic last weekend.  Or you can become a "friend".  For those that use the computer for fun, this is no problem.  For others, this will be a learning experience in modern communications.  Once people start signing up as friends, this thing should start growing, like a network.

Security Patrol
The new crime prevention deputy that has recently been assigned to our area spoke to the Board at the January 2010 Directors meeting.   Burglaries and break-ins are increasing in this area.  He was very definite about the importance of  neighborhood security patrols in reducing these crimes.   Our Security Patrol is faltering and needs more day and night time volunteers immediately.  Please call Linda Masters, 941-474-3701, to volunteer and set up a schedule that is easy for you to do.  Training will be offered if you are new to the Patrol.  The Deputy also encouraged us to use the NON EMERGENCY phone number, 316-1201, to report any troublesome or suspicious activity noted in the neighborhood including "solicitors" that may be something more.

2010 Annual Member Picnic
The annual Overbrook Gardens Spring picnic for Association members and their guests was held again this year at Lemon Bay park on Saturday, March 20, 2010.  We had great weather, great food, and a great turnout.   Approximately 112 people attended.  The highlight of the day was the arrival of Commissioner Shannon Staub who circulated through the crowd as she enjoyed our burgers.  Local businesses and members had donated 49 door prizes and 15 raffle items which were enjoyed by all.  There was also a profitable 50/50 drawing.  The Association extends a huge thank you to the people who donated prizes and worked to make this an enjoyable picnic for our members.  This is our favorite way to say "Thank You" for supporting our Association.   Click here for more photos taken by guests.  There are more photos on Facebook (Overbrook Gardens).
