OGA Annual Meeting Feb. 12, 2009

The meeting was opened at 7:10 by Pres. Lynn Frost. The Pledge of Allegiance was then said by those in attendance. Lynn then introduced the members of the board. New members (Mary & Chris Watson, 1420 Fairless and Livia & Bob Kessler, 1443 Leewood) were also introduced.

The minutes of the 2-14-08 meeting were read by Secretary Bizit Stevens. Bev Williams made the motion to approve. It was seconded by Dave Fedder, and the motion passed.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Jack Rienks since Bob O’Brien had a family emergency. The 2008 end of year and 2009 proposed budgets ( $14,482) are on the web site. The checking account has a balance of $20,198. We had an unexpected income of $2,000 from Verizon for the storage of the utility poles. Bev Williams asked if there were any notable differences in line items in the 2009 budget. Jack’s response was they are very close. A motion was made to approve, seconded and passed.

Carol White reported we have a membership of 208.

Maintenance Chair Harvey White asked for help from the members. Mangroves were cut by unknown people. He urged members if they saw anyone without the orange vests cutting in our common areas to call the sheriff. Maintenance plans to widen the access to the boat ramp.

Social Chair Marty Wheeler discussed the work done by her committee:
*Refreshments after community meetings---donations appreciated
*The raffle (Valentine bouquet) was won by George Graham.
*Annual picnic for members and paid guests will be held at Lemon Bay Pavilion on March 21 for members and paid guests. The association provides hamburgers, hot dogs, soda and water. Members are asked to bring a dish or dessert to share.
* The holiday party held on 12-6-08 was a big success.

Jim Keenan reported all was well with Dock Security. There was a small incident of kids caught cutting mangroves.

E. Kim Boyle reported on Security Patrol in the absence of Mike Beyne. There have been some major break-ins on Bayshore. They are looking for a royal blue car. Linda and John  Masters volunteered to take over the Security Patrol. A sign-up sheet for volunteers was passed out. The question was asked: Does person in charge of Security Patrol get police reports? It was stated that Dave Lemonde did.

E. Kim Boyle reported there was no new info on Property Standards. The man who had his RV parked on West Crest left today.

Community Affairs: Jack Rienks reported that the county had allocated $10,000 to OGA last year, and it was turned over to 2009.This grant would be to renew interest in our association. The county suggested a big picnic with helicopters, ambulances, police dogs to encourage those not members to become involved. The board would prefer to replace the north fence on 776. There is a question of who owns the fence, the property owner or the state. It would cost $3,000 for a survey. We may be able to form a tax district to maintain the fence and possibly put in sidewalks on Overbrook Road.

Under Old Business, new directors were elected. Pat Smith  moved to accept the slate of board members and Bev Williams seconded . The motion passed. The new directors are
Marty Wheeler
Lucy McCullough
Elizabeth Kleiner
Carol White
Mary Watson
E. Kim Boyle

Pres. Lynn Frost informed the group that she received a phone call from The Herald Tribune stating we had a sex offender living in OGA. He wanted to know how the association dealt with this.

New Business
No Soliciting signs will be put at the entrance and by Neptune. If someone comes to your door, ask for their license. Call the sheriff.
No Trespassing signs will be put by the  boat ramp and vacant lots. Jack stated that it would help us with the fine for mangrove cutting by showing positive action.

Paula Culliston said we could  bring hazardous waste to the vacant gas station on Saturday, February 28th from 9:00 - 4:00.

Rick Moretti who lives on Overbook Road asked about what is being done with the speeding, since there is only one stop sign. His dog was killed. Pres. Lynn Frost responded that she had tried to get three more stop signs and that we had enough points. However, the other three stops weren’t at a perfect crossroad.  A woman asked if we knew what other communities had done. Lynn replied that she had letters and petitions. Jack encouraged members to take a course offered by the Law Enforcement Agency and to keep calling the sheriff.

Rick Moretti suggested putting a 30 mph after each stop sign. Lynn explained you can’t because the stop signs have to be one miles apart.

Bev Williams moved to adjourn the meeting. Terri Weigand seconded it. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.

The directors met after the meeting to elect the following officers:
President: Carol White
Vice-President: Lucy McCullough
Secretary: Elizabeth Stevens
Treasurer: Bob O’Brien

                                                                                      Respectfully submitted,

                                                                                      Elizabeth Stevens
