Minutes from the Feb. 11,
2010 Association Business Meeting
Pres.
Carol White opened the meeting at 7:00 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance. She
then introduced new board members.
Directors
attending: Carol White, Jack Rienks, Bob O’Brien, Elizabeth Stevens, Marty
Wheeler, Sandi Fedder, Elizabeth Kleiner, and Dick Hooley.
Secretary’s Report
Minutes
of 2-12-09 meeting read by Bizit Stevens. Joan O’Brien made a motion to accept,
it was seconded by Bev Williams, the motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report
Bob
O’Brien presented the fiscal report for 2009 (see attached). Checking Account:
$17, 134.14, CD’s: $9, 209.40, Petty cash: $27. 59 for a total of $26, 371.13.
He explained the income and expenses. He presented the proposed budget for 2010
totaling $17,659 (see attached). Teri Wiegand moved to approve, seconded by Bev
Williams, the motion passed.
Membership
Bob O’Brien stated that we had 266 paid members in 2009, and 217 so far in 2010. He talked about reasons for joining:

Look
at it in reverse: if we did not have an association, who would take care of the
entrance, bus stops, etc?
Neatly
maintained common properties makes our property values higher.
Could
we have Associate Membership for those wanting to use boat ramp?
A
gentleman said that in his former community, people had to pay a yearly
membership for using the boat ramp.
Both
Jim Keenan and Bob O’Brien were concerned about our liability.
The
Board will take this under advisement.
Committee Reports
Maintenance: Harvey White explained what his crew of 6-8 guys had been doing. Rebuilding of the north entry wall has been completed except for some landscaping and 24 volt lights. The new bulletin board has been installed.
We
had to pay a one time fee of $3,500 for the cutting of the mangroves.
The
pine trees were cut off of Lot 312 in 2009.
Social
Marty
Wheeler said that there were 65 people at the Christmas Party. They had live
music, a 50/50 ($101) and 20 gifts. At the last meeting, $26.50 was received
towards food costs. Tonight’s raffle was for two Flower arrangements donated by
Marty Wheeler. Marty introduced Linda Baillergeon, the new social chair. Linda
said the picnic will be held March 20, and had a sign-up sheet for jobs. The Christmas
Party will be held at Boca Royale on the first Sunday in December.
Community Affairs / Web
Master
Jack Rienks said that there was a hazardous waste pick-up on Dearborn and McCall on 2-27. They will also come into our neighborhoods to do this. On 3-16, there will be a special referendum to continue the 3 mil school tax. Sarasota County spends $19,000 per student.
Jack
had a meeting with Shannon Staub. The dredging will move forward on the Neptune
Channel.
Code Enforcement
Carol
reporting for Kim Boyle. The truck on
San Remo and Greenlawn is gone. The lot at San Remo and St. Claire has been
mowed.
Dock Security
Jim
Keenan stated that he “keeps an eye on things.”
Welcome Baskets
Bizit
Stevens reported that 44 baskets have been given out to new home owners in Overbrook
Gardens.
Security Patrol
Linda Masters stated that there are 5 faithful teams who volunteer. She needs more volunteers. From May to October, there are few volunteers. Numbers to know:

New Business
The Nominating Committee, consisting of Elizabeth Kleiner, Carol White and Bev Williams presented a slate of directors for approval by the membership: 3 year terms: E. Kim Boyle, Sandi Fedder, Bob O’Brien, Bizit Stevens and 2 year terms: George Aylesworth and Steve Walmsley. Bev Williams moved to accept the slate of directors, Jim Keenan seconded and the slate of new directors passed.
Jim
Keenan requested that a key to the boat ramp be given to the Fish and Game
officer. The request was passed.
The
meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM.
